At least 36 terrorists have been neutralized in Burkina Faso by ground and air military interventions, said a statement from the Armed Forces’ Directorate of Communication and Public Relations.
“As part of their efforts to secure the territory, the National Armed Forces have been conducting a military operation in the eastern region for several days,” said the statement that was relayed by the Burkina Faso Information Agency (AIB).
The statement added that during this “particularly intense engagement, the units have succeeded in neutralizing at least 36 terrorists through ground and air interventions.
However, the army deplores “during the day of March 20, 2022, two major incidents […] during the progression of the units: a clash 20 km from Natiaboani which cost the lives of 13 soldiers and caused 9 injuries, and a complex attack in the vicinity of Napadé, during which 11 soldiers were killed,” the statement said.
The Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces paid “tribute to the memory of the fallen soldiers […]” and called on all deployed forces to maintain the same determination in carrying out their security missions.
