The Angolan President said, in Benguela, that besides the Lobito corridor, Angola, Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) need to share energy, when the lusophone country is making “important investments in the energy sector”.
“It is also time to start thinking about the connection between our countries, African in general, but in the specific case of our three countries, Angola, Zambia and DRC, in investing, not necessarily with public resources in highways to connect the SADC [Southern African Development Community] countries,” said João Lourenço on Tuesday.
The Head of State was speaking at the ceremony marking the handing over of the concession for rail services and support logistics for the Lobito corridor. According to João Lourenço, the Lobito corridor “will certainly boost inter-African exports, which for now only represent 14% of the total made to the rest of the world.
The Angolan President stressed that it is up to Africans to seize every opportunity for the generation of added value in all countries, so that the enhancement of their exports and the creation of jobs for youth are a reality and not just talk of circumstances or international forums, where the ‘glamour’ often overshadows what is really wanted and needed “for the children of Africa.
