Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) said its troops “neutralised” around a dozen terrorists during an operation on Sunday between Bambara-Maoude and Inadjatafane in the Douentza region of central Mali.
In a statement, the Army did not specify the armed groups targeted but reaffirmed its determination to secure the area. “No effort will be spared by the FAMa to ensure the protection and free movement of people and their property,” it said, using its French acronym.
Mali has grappled with persistent insecurity for more than a decade, particularly in its central and northern regions, where armed groups linked to extremist networks and inter-communal tensions have staged attacks against both security forces and civilians.
The military frequently announces counterterrorism operations as part of efforts to reassert territorial control, especially in volatile zones near key population centres and along the strategic Niger River corridor.
