King Mohammed VI received Pedro Sánchez, President of the Government of the Kingdom of Spain, today at the Royal Palace of Rabat, who is on a working visit to Morocco.
This visit is part of the continuity of the new phase of bilateral relations, which began with the meeting between the King, and the Spanish Prime Minister in April 2022, and the adoption, on that occasion, of the Joint Declaration between the two countries, states the Royal Office in a communiqué.
This new dynamic is unfolding satisfactorily. It is characterized by the strengthening of cooperation, coordination, and partnership in all areas based on the principles of trust, mutual respect, ambition, neighborliness, and respect for commitments.
During this audience, the Spanish Prime Minister reiterated to the King, Spain’s position, as contained in the joint declaration of April 2022, considering the Moroccan autonomy initiative as the most serious, realistic, and credible basis for resolving this dispute. The King thanked Spain for this new constructive and important position.
The King and Sánchez, emphasized the unique cooperation opportunities that open up to the two neighboring countries. The joint organization of the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Portugal constitutes an additional lever for strengthening bilateral relations.
Furthermore, the Spanish Prime Minister welcomed and expressed Spain’s interest in the strategic initiatives launched by the king, including the Initiative of Atlantic coastal African countries, the Royal Initiative to facilitate access of Sahel countries to the Atlantic Ocean, as well as the Nigeria-Morocco Atlantic-African Gas Pipeline.
Attending this audience on the Spanish side were Mr. José Manuel Albares, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Emma Aparici, General Secretary of Foreign Affairs at the Prime Minister’s Office, and on the Moroccan side, Mr. Fouad Ali El Himma, Advisor to the King, and Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs.
