The ECOWAS has strongly condemned a wave of coordinated terrorist attacks across Mali, describing them as a grave threat to peace and stability in the sub-region.
In a statement issued from its headquarters in Abuja on Sunday, April 26, ECOWAS described the assaults as “heinous acts,” following widespread violence reported on Saturday in multiple locations including Bamako, Kati, Mopti and Gao.
The regional bloc expressed solidarity with the Malian authorities and victims’ families, while urging member states and security agencies to strengthen coordinated responses against extremist threats.
Authorities in Mali have yet to release full casualty figures, though security sources suggest some key locations are under military control amid ongoing uncertainty in parts of the country, including Kidal. ECOWAS reaffirmed its commitment to supporting regional stability, as Mali continues to grapple with persistent insurgent violence that has destabilised parts of West Africa for years.
