Angola has recorded 1,558 deaths in road traffic accidents over the past six months, according to official data released on Wednesday, raising renewed concerns about road safety across the country.
The figures, covering the period from October 2025 to March 2026, reflect a high number of fatalities linked to a range of road incidents involving vehicles on both urban and intercity routes.
Authorities say the data points to persistent challenges in traffic management, driver behaviour, vehicle conditions and enforcement of road safety regulations. The Ministry of Transport has reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying measures aimed at reducing road accidents, including stricter enforcement of traffic laws, improved driver education, and enhanced road infrastructure.
Officials have also indicated plans to strengthen public awareness campaigns, urging road users to exercise caution and adhere to safety regulations in order to curb the rising number of fatalities. The government is expected to continue monitoring the situation closely, with further updates anticipated as part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety and protect lives across the country.
