The Security Council renewed this Friday the mandate of the United Nations’ mission to the Sahara (MINURSO) for another year until 31 October 2022, while stressing the relevance of Morocco’s autonomy plan for a lasting and peaceful solution to the over four-decade Sahara regional dispute.
The resolution, presented by the United States, welcomed once again the “serious and credible” efforts made by Morocco for the settlement of the Sahara issue through its autonomy plan offered under its sovereignty, a plan supported by the international community.
In this new text, the UN executive body enshrined, once again, the pre-eminence of the autonomy initiative, presented by Morocco on April 11, 2007, welcoming the “serious and credible” efforts of the Kingdom, reflected in the Moroccan proposal.
