Togo: New Government Appointed Under the Continued Leadership of Victoire Tomegah-Dogbé

As of August 20, 2024, Togo has a new Government following the legislative elections held on April 29. The Government, once again led by Victoire Tomegah-Dogbé, features a 35-member Cabinet tasked with overseeing the transition to the new Constitution.

The new administration includes 13 new appointments and 11 departures, with 17 ministers retaining their positions. Key figures remaining in their roles are Robert Dussey as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gilbert Bawara as Minister of Public Service Reform, Labor and Social Dialogue, Cina Lawson as Minister of Digital Economy and Transformation, and Florence Yawoa Kouigan continuing as Minister of Communication, Media and Culture, as well as Government Spokesperson.

Sani Yaya, the former Finance Minister, is replaced in his role by a newcomer who will oversee Public Works and Infrastructures. Yawa Tségan, the former President of the National Assembly, takes over from Kodzo Adedze, who won her former parliamentary seat.

Notable new appointments include Isaac Tchiakpe, spokesman for the Union des forces de changement (UFC), who is now Minister of Technical Education, Vocational Training, and Apprenticeship. Kanka Malick Natchaba, formerly Secretary General of the Government, returns to the portfolio of Higher Education.

According to officials, this 35-member government will lead the transition for the next 8 to 9 months as the institutions of the Fifth Republic are established.
